Somatics refers to healing practices that are body-oriented or embodied. (The word "soma" means body.) Somatics has roots in neuroscience, movement, dance, mindfulness, and bodywork. Somatics attempts to heal the split between body and mind, empowering us to utilize bodily experience as a resource in healing. What does this look like in my work with clients? Most frequently, I encourage moment-by-moment awareness of physical sensations, along with thoughts and emotions. If clients are comfortable with the idea, we can use breathwork or even movement.
